The
Allen County Council on Aging began in 1972 with
an Information and Referral program and a goal
to link seniors with other community resources
that offered services consistent with the
seniors' needs. Whenever possible, the staff
refers callers to programs offered by our
agency. We are diligent about maintaining
current information about other resources in the
community and if a caller expresses a need not
addressed by the Allen County Council on Aging,
the staff provides information about other
agencies and programs that may be able to meet
their needs.
In
addition, the agency staff attends many senior
fairs, health fairs, and speaks to a variety of
groups regarding the services offered by the
agency. Please contact the main office at
426-0060 for more information on services or to
schedule a speaking engagement for your group.

Historically,
transportation has been identified as the greatest
barrier to seniors in need of (non-emergency) medical
attention. The Allen County Council on Aging has been
a leader in advocating for the needs of seniors and
persons with disabilities since the inception of their
Transportation Program. The primary focus of the
transportation Program is to transport senior citizens
to and from medical appointments, nutrition sites,
grocery stores, and other social service
agencies.

The
TeleCare Program was created to visit with and check
on the safety of the elderly. Many seniors live alone,
and have no family in the area that can check on them
daily. The TeleCare Program is a free, person-to-person daily reassurance call for the senior. More

Medical
Equipment Loan Program
The
Allen County Council on Aging is pleased to offer, at no
cost to the senior, durable medical equipment for
loan. The agency has for loan items such as
wheelchairs, shower chairs, walkers, canes, toilet
seat risers, etc.
If
you are in need of a loan, please call Susie (426-0060) and she will check the inventory of availability.
The senior may then borrow the item(s) for as long as
is necessary. We simply ask that the item be returned
when the senior is finished with it.
If
you have durable medical equipment that is in good
condition and you would like to donate it to the
