Historically,
transportation has been identified as the greatest
barrier to seniors in need of (non-emergency) medical attention.
The Allen County Council on Aging has been a leader in
advocating for the needs of seniors and persons with
disabilities since the inception of their
Transportation Program. The primary focus of the
Transportation Program is to transport senior citizens
to and from medical appointments, nutrition sites,
grocery stores, and other social service agencies.
The
Allen County Council on Aging is the only non-profit
organization in Allen County that provides "door
through door" service for the seniors that we
serve. Our service not only assists the seniors as
they get on and off the van, but the driver will also
help with any parcels the senior my have. Another
unique piece of the transportation provided by the
Council on Aging is that we do not charge a fee for a
ride. The suggested donation is $2.50 per one-way
trip. As an approved Medicaid provider, The Allen
County Council on Aging is able to provide service for
anyone who is an eligible Medicaid recipient.
The
agency currently operates seven modified wheelchair
accessible maxi vans and two back-up vehicles.

Public Rural
Transportation
Federal funding was secured by the Allen County
Council on Aging to provide rural transportation to
all residents of Allen County. This program is
available for a one-way trip fee of $3.00.
Seniors age 60 and over qualify
for our transportation services at a suggested
donation of $2.50 per one-way trip.
For example, if you need
transportation from Fort Wayne to Woodburn, Leo or
New Haven, or from outlying Allen County towns into
Fort Wayne or other Allen County towns, you would
qualify for Countilink.
Trips
are provided to the doctor, pharmacy, grocery store,
shopping, beauty/barber shop—anywhere you may need
to go in Allen County.
This new public transportation
service will be provided in Allen County where
Citilink does not provide bus or van service –
transit trips that end and/or begin outside of Fort
Wayne. So for example, a mother with two
children living just outside of Monroeville needing
to take her children to Parkview Hospital on State
Street will be able to do so via public
transportation. This new service will be able
to transport people of all ages in rural
Allen County.
Transportation for seniors 60
years and older will be on a donation basis.
